Steps to Become a BPI Building Analyst
Step 1. Take Building Performance Advantage Curriculum (approx. 40 hours of classroom and field training) to become a Building Analyst Professional. Our courses are offered live at The Austin Institute of Real Estate located at 8828 Research Blvd. Austin, TX 78758.
What will be covered in the BPI Building Analyst Certification Course?
The course will include approximately 32 hours of lecture and 8 hours of field work. The course will be covered in the following order to build on a base of knowledge and then culminate in the actual field work of testing for energy inefficiencies and determining solutions to correct.

The Energy Conservation and Disclosure Ordinance (ECAD) that was passed by the City Council and became effective June 2009 requires that all homes in the City of Austin, ten years or older, on the market for sale and use Austin Energy must have an Energy Audit completed before the home sells and closes.
About the BPI Curriculum and Exams
Our Building Performance Institute (BPI) Curriculum and Testing is a Nationally Recognized Certification Program.
What You Need to Become an Energy Auditor
There are no prerequisite courses for the BPI Building Analyst Certification.
A candidate must be 18 years or older and have a minimum of a GED diploma.
A person who wants to pursue the Building Analyst certification should have the ability to learn and understand building principles and the basics of building science.
Information about Austin Energy Orientations
Austin Energy will be providing the orientations required to become a registered Energy Auditor. You must attend one of these orientations in order to perform the ECAD audits in Austin.
We will no longer be providing these orientations at the Austin Institute of Real Estate.
